Also, see our Student Showcase:
Any Day But Christmas!
Featuring students of the New York School of Burlesque, many performing for the very first time! They'll be doing numbers based on various holidays, to give you a little respite from all the Christmas goings-on. If you're interested in classes or in performing, this is a perfect time to check out what you'll learn, and to support the school and have a good time while you're at it.
December 5, 8 pm, $5
167 Orchard St at Stanton
All other classes are sold out.
Look for upcoming classes to be announced in December and throughout the new year! Stay on this list to get the dates when our schedule is finalized. There will be another Essential Burlesque series, as well as separate offerings of Classic Moves, Chair Dance, Fan Dance, and Pastie-Making. We will also be offering a series in Hula Hoop, a costuming workshop, and classes in hosting for aspiring MCs. More classes will be presented in Washington DC, with possible classes in other cities (contact us if you'd like to have a workshop in your town).
Upcoming Performances and Events:
Headmistress Jo is cutting back her performance schedule over the next month while she's rewriting the NYSB Handbook, so there are only two scheduled chances to watch the founder of the School onstage over the next month.
Saturday, November 22, 10 pm
MISSION BRIEFING: The world is, as usual, in trouble... menaced this time by the Pernicious INternational Cartel of Horrible Baddies Out To Take Over el Mundo (P.I.N.C.H.B.O.T.T.O.M.), whose plan for global domination -- to use the twirling of burlesque performers' tassels to hypnotize the populace into submission -- is not the most ludicrous in the history of the 007 franchise. But P.I.N.C.H.B.O.T.T.O.M. will soon discover that The Twirl is Not Enough. Because (an unlicensed parody of) James Bond is back... and this time, he has a "License to Pinch" in the undercover extravaganza YOU ONLY PINCH TWICE.
hosted by Nasty Canasta & Jonny Porkpie
starring Anita Cookie, Bastard Keith, Clams Casino, Delirium Tremens, Doc Wasabassco, GiGi La Femme, Jo Boobs, Julie Atlas Muz, Naughtia Nice, Neil O'Fortune, Peekaboo Pointe, Scott Rayow, Tigger!
Jo will be doing a very silly duet with NYSB alumni Miss Clams Casino, winner of the 2008 awards for Most Comedic and Most Innovative at the Miss Exotic World Pageant!

Headmistress Jo Weldon Performs at the Slipper Room!
Look for School of Burlesque Teachers Angie Pontani, Helen Pontani, Jo Weldon, Julie Atlas Muz, and Peekboo Pointe on an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl! The episode is named "In the Realm of the Basses," and no, we can't tell you any of the script secrets! We had a wonderful, wonderful time at the shoot (who is sweeter than Leighton Meester??). We love the people at GG and are beyond excited to have been able to work with them again.

We are also in an upcoming segment on MTV's new cultural station, Iggy. There is a segment of Jo teaching a fan dance to lovely and charming host Angel, as well as a clip about the Student Showcase we had in October. We've seen the clips and they're gorgeous!

And, a shoutout to the amazing Miss Indigo Blue and Dane Ballard, producers of BurlyCon 2008. It was a very special (attendees have gone so far as to say life-changing) event and we are looking forward to the next one!
