Thinking Some More

I haven’t jumped into the discussion on boundnotgagged.com because I’m not ENTIRELY on the same page as the other activists. Although I find Farley equally offensive when she's motivated by malice toward sex workers' rights activists, I have some ambivalence about all of this. My main objection to Farley and crew is their objection to me. My appreciation of the anti-Farley blogging is tempered by a sense that it isn’t the methodology of the research that bothers me as much as it is the ferociouness to discredit people who question it, or even toward people who just want to ADD to it.

Keeping it Up

'This moral indignation emanates from people who live comfortably, who are not wondering where their next meal will come from or how to pay doctors' bills. These moral entrepreneurs do not have to choose between being a live-in maid, with no privacy or free time and unable to save money because the pay is so bad, and selling sex, which pays so well that you have time to spend with your children or read a book, money to buy education or a phone.'

I am so glad to see the people I used to work with are still producing such amazing work. I don't know if I'll ever again get as deeply involved in this kind of activism as I was, but I'm glad it's still going on.

It just drives me nuts when people look at these kinds of responses to government policy and frame it as being supportive of sex trade abuses.
