Featuring performances from Big City Burlesque by Miss Honey Bordeaux on Sept 23 and Veronica Lashe on Sept 24 along with a make-up demonstration by Kenton on Sept 25!
The show is hosted by Torchy Taboo who was this year's Miss Exotic World's 1st runner up and Jo Boobs Weldon, a performer and teacher of Neo-Burlesque and a panelist, judge, and guest lecturer for many burlesque events. The Traveling Charm School offers several different opportunities to not only be entertained but interact with some of the best Burlesque talent in the country. This weekend is designed to give Atlantans an insiders look at what the National Burlesque Revival is and why Burlesquers do what they do.
It starts with the 2-D focus of the event, a series of beautiful photographs of Burlesque performers of the current revival, by local Burlesque chronicler Justin Houser and performer, teacher and historian of Burlesque Jo Weldon from NYC. This multi-media event will also include presentations of Jo Boobs Weldon and Torchy in lively and entertaining lectures *wink* on the history of Burlesque, gender roles in Burlesque and what it's like being both in front of and behind the camera. Lectures are accompanied with demonstrations by Jo, Torchy and several highly accomplished Southern performers: Panty Raid and Miss Monique Honeybush of Nashville, members of the Doll Squad, Miss Honey Bordeaux of Big City Burlesque and Torchys brand new Steam Heat Dancers. We will entertain and enlighten the audience on the idea of Burlesque as an art form. Also included will be works by other female artists, such as a display of fashions demonstrating the contrast between the psychological levity of latex and the extraordinary weight of bridal wear. Musical guest include members of the Deluxe Vaudeville Orchestra. The Art of Burlesque is an Eyedrum sponsored event. Doors open at 8:30, show at 9:30, tickets $10.
